Episode 154: 1st April 2021

Laughology, Penny Streeter and Post Covid Business Landscape.

We are already tired of the phrase ‘the new normal’ and that’s certainly true about the new ways of working that businesses have and will continue to adapt to suit the restrictions that Covid19 has imposed upon us but this week we decided to seek out innovative and creative ways of trading that were necessary to survive but have now become part of the expectations of our staff, our customers and our suppliers.

Whether continuing take away or click and collect services or shelving office space to save on rent and rates there have been some amazing pivots that have not only saved businesses but have lead them to greater ways of working.

Our review this week came off the back of a webinar that Tracy attended recently at which a lady by the name of Stephanie Davies was speaking. Stephanie runs a training company called Laughology and has written a book entitled The Science of Laughter in which she talks about why laughter is important and can be used to keep ourselves happy, productive and connected. Both the website and the book are worth checking out and you might want to take a look at some of the free resources available too.

In the spotlight this week is a lady who set up a hugely successful  international recruitment, agency almost by mistake, second time around. Her story from being homeless and penniless to amassing a net worth of over £200m is an interesting one and will provide hope and inspiration for many. Penny Streeter of  a24group.com was born in Zimbabwe but came to the UK when she was 12. Her life took many twists and turns until she identified a gap in the recruitment market just when she needed it most and the rest, as they say, is history. This interview with her is long but interesting.
