Episode 56: 21st February 2019

The gender pay gap, salary taboos and Poundland. It’s all about the money, money, money, this week.

Since new legislation came in last year the gender pay gap has been under increasing scrutiny and this week we take a look at the impact the law to report on the gender pay gap is having on the balance. It’s fair to say it’s a mixed message.

Our reviews this week stick with money as we take a look at Net Flix original Banking On Bitcoin and crypto currency . We also pose the question asked by TED Talker David Burkus, ‘Do you know how much your colleagues earn and if you don’t would you want to?‘ We also take time to look at pay transparency from both sides of the desk and discuss what is to be gained (or lost) from the sharing of salary information.

And our business person of interest this week is Poundland (not Poundworld), founder Steve Smith who made £50 million from piling it high and selling it cheap.
